The Brennan Investment Group has officially withdrawn its ambitious plans for a $2 billion data center project in Barrington Hills, a village located roughly 40 miles northwest of Chicago, Illinois.

Originally slated for a site south of Penny Road, the massive development was abruptly halted following intense pushback from local residents. Opponents launched a Change.org petition citing serious concerns over potential air pollution, environmental disruption, threats to local water resources, and direct violations of village codes. In response to this community resistance, the developer canceled a scheduled February 2, 2026, public information presentation and pulled its application entirely, leading local officials to declare the matter closed.
