Gigaland has scrapped its initial plans for an 800MW data center campus in Fauquier County, Virginia, after facing local opposition. However, the company is not giving up and plans to propose a smaller project for the site.

The original proposal, called Gigaland, called for six data centers on a 202-acre property near Remington. Gigaland bought the land for $4 million in October 2023 and had sought to rezone the area from residential to 'Business Park.' The project would have included 2.2 million square feet of space and multiple substations. While the site is near industrial areas, it is also close to The Meadows residential neighborhood, which led to the local pushback.

Gigaland has confirmed it is now developing a scaled-down version of the project. This new plan would reduce the campus size to 847,400 square feet and cut the number of substations in half to two. The buildings would also be reduced to a single story.
