A proposal by Australian firm HMC Capital to develop a 250,000 sq ft data center in Monterey Park, California, has been delayed following intense local opposition. Residents have raised concerns regarding environmental impacts, potential increases in utility bills, and the transparency of the planning process. In response to this public hostility, the City Council postponed its approval decision until January 21, 2026.

If approved, the project would transform a 15.8-acre site into a major digital infrastructure hub, featuring 14 emergency backup engines to support continuous operations.
