Ownership: Allegheny DC Property Co. owns the building.
Lot Size: 47 acres

Allegheny DC Property Co. plans to develop a data center complex on the 47-acre site of the former Cheswick Generating Station in Springdale, Pennsylvania.

The proposed development includes a 565,000 sq ft (52,490 sqm) data center and a 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sqm) building for cooling and facility management. The redevelopment is overseen by Charah Environmental Redevelopment Group, which acquired the site in 2022 after the 565MW coal power plant was retired. Demolition and cleanup have been ongoing since March 2025, with the site expected to be fully ready for redevelopment later this year.

If the project receives approval, construction at the site is expected to start in 2027, and the facility is expected to come online in 2028.

The project faces local opposition. The Springdale planning commission delayed a decision on recommending the project to the city council, citing the need for further studies and resident comments. A public meeting saw several residents speak out against the proposals, and a Change.org petition opposing the plan has secured more than 300 signatures.
