Crusoe

Crusoe is a privately held AI infrastructure developer and GPU cloud provider that builds AI data center campuses and offers GPU cloud services in the United States. The company began as Crusoe Energy Systems, a flare mitigation provider that powered onsite computing from stranded natural gas, with bitcoin mining as an early use case.

Crusoe is developing an AI campus at the Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, planned for 1.2 GW, and in May 2025 it secured $11.6 billion in debt and equity to expand the site from two to eight buildings.

For this project, it is reported that Crusoe’s direct customer is Oracle and that OpenAI is Oracle’s customer; the Abilene campus is tied to OpenAI’s Stargate program;

OpenAI later announced an additional 4.5 GW Stargate partnership with Oracle that references the Abilene Stargate I site. Crusoe also expanded in-house manufacturing capability through the acquisition of Easter-Owens Electric in 2022.

Crusoe History:

  • In July 2025 announced a 1.8 GW AI data center campus with Tallgrass near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
  • In May, 2025, secured $11.6 billion in debt and equity to expand the Abilene, Texas campus to eight buildings, with Crusoe noting Oracle as the direct customer and OpenAI as Oracle’s customer for the site.
  • In March 2025 began construction on the second phase of the Abilene, Texas campus to bring total planned capacity to 1.2 GW.
  • In April 2022 raised Series C financing that included plans to launch the CrusoeCloud platform for high performance computing.
  • In June 2022 acquired Easter-Owens Electric to vertically integrate modular data center manufacturing.
  • Founded in 2018 as Crusoe Energy Systems to mitigate gas flaring by powering onsite computing, including bitcoin mining.

Crusoe has signed a multi-year framework agreement with Kalina Distributed Power (KDP), a natural gas power provider, to build and operate multiple AI data centers in Alberta, powered by KDP’s natural gas plants.

Crusoe has finalized a lease agreement for a data center in Norway to house Crusoe Cloud, its GPU cloud services.

Crusoe is planning a major expansion, Phase 3, at its Stargate campus in Abilene. The proposal includes two new data center buildings, each approximately 738,000 square feet.
