Starwood Capital's re-proposed data center in Alexandria, Virginia, is moving forward despite strong community opposition. While the project was defeated in 2022, revised plans were accepted by Fairfax County, and it's grandfathered under older zoning rules.
Residents, particularly the Bren Mar Coalition, are fighting it due to concerns about noise, new transmission lines and a substation (under State Corporation Commission review with a January 2025 hearing), and overall resource strain. The project is currently "delayed" amidst this ongoing battle.
