January 24, 2026
KDDI
KDDI and Sharp Corporation have announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop an AI data center at Green Front Sakai, Sharp's former factory site in Sakai, Osaka. Under the agreement, KDDI will acquire the site's land, buildings, and electrical facilities from Sharp. Construction is planned to begin by the end of March 2025, with full-scale operations expected to start by the end of March 2026.
Previously, Sharp and KDDI had announced a partnership with IT suppliers Supermicro and Datasection to redevelop the Sakai plant into an AI data center featuring Nvidia hardware. In the latest development, KDDI will maintain its collaboration with Supermicro and Datasection to build and operate the facility, while Sharp will no longer be involved.
