The proposed EdgeConneX data center project in Pickaway County, Ohio, originally intended to develop 680 acres of farmland in the Village of Ashville and Harrison Township. However, in February 2026, local authorities denied the annexation request for the 490-acre Harrison Township parcel, forcing the developer to pivot its site plan toward the 200-acre tract it already owns within village limits. While the total capacity remains undisclosed, the current proposal includes a 1.8GW substation and a natural gas-powered energy facility to support the massive power requirements.

The project continues to face fierce community opposition from the "Protect Pickaway" movement, which cites concerns over noise, environmental impact, and the erosion of the area’s rural character. Despite the expiration of a previous moratorium, tensions remain high as EdgeConneX attempts to win over the council with a $102 million community benefits package—an increase from its initial $35 million offer—slated for school funding, public safety, and infrastructure.
