Diode: Roxbury Technology Park

Lot Size: 515 acres

Diode Ventures withdrew its plan for the Roxbury Technology Park, a 515-acre data center campus near Richmond, Virginia, primarily due to intense local opposition from residents and officials concerning potential environmental impacts, noise and light pollution, and a lack of transparency regarding the project and its end user. This backlash led the Charles City County board of supervisors to delay voting on the rezoning proposal in June 2025.

Ultimately, Diode officially withdrew its application in August 2025, stating the decision was made to "shift our focus elsewhere" based on conversations with local collaborators and a reassessment of the site's readiness for development, specifically regarding power and municipal support.

The project had been initiated with a submission of initial plans to the planning commission in the previous year (2024), followed by a revised plan earlier in 2025, and a planning commission recommendation for approval in May 2025, before the local pushback caused the project to stall.
