Kakao Plans Data Center in Namyangju, South Korea

Kakao, the South Korean Internet company, has launched its first self-owned data center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. Located on Hanyang University's Erica campus approximately 30 kilometers south of Seoul, the Kakao Data Center Ansan boasts a capacity for 120,000 servers within its 47,378 square meters (510,000 square feet) of space.
The project, first announced in 2020 with a planned investment of 400 billion won ($336.6 million), has progressed in phases. While partial operations began in 2021, construction was fully completed in September 2023. The facility, which features solar panels on its exterior, was scheduled to become fully operational in the first quarter of 2024.
