Digital Realty, a US operator, has purchased a 1920s office building in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $9.5 million and plans to demolish it to make way for a new data center. The property, known as the Court Arcade building (725 E. Trade St.), was acquired from Shamrock Management Corp. earlier in 2025.
This acquisition is part of a larger $16 million land purchase of two adjacent parcels, located next to Digital Realty's existing Charlotte facility. Digital Trade Street 2, an affiliate of Digital Realty, intends to construct a four-story data center on the site, though a development timeline has not yet been announced.
Site History
Built in the 1920s, the Court Arcade building is a two-story, 18,575-square-foot office structure located in uptown Charlotte's First Ward. Historically, it was designed to house attorneys needing easy access to the nearby Mecklenburg County Courthouse, and it currently serves as home to several law firms and the headquarters for the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party. Shamrock Management Corp. had owned the building since March 1997, when they acquired it for just over $1 million, before selling it to Digital Realty for $9.5 million as part of the total $16 million land acquisition. Digital Realty plans to demolish this structure to build a four-story data center adjacent to its existing facility.
