Project Accelerate

Lot Size: 123 acres

The rezoning application for 'Project Accelerate,' a proposed data center in Matthews, North Carolina, has been withdrawn. Developers East John Master Development and Matthews DC LLC, who were seeking to build the facility on 123 acres along East John Street, pulled the application on October 7, ahead of its scheduled consideration on October 13, 2025.

The massive project, which called for five two-story buildings, was met with fierce local opposition. Residents raised concerns about the data center's potential impact on power consumption (up to 600 megawatts), property taxes, noise pollution, and the environment. The developers stated the withdrawal would "allow additional time to explore options."
