Digital Realty Buys Blackstone Stake in Three Virginia Data Centers for $3.5 Billion

Digital Realty is planning to build a six-story, 58,000-square-foot data center in downtown Seattle, Washington, targeting a site currently occupied by an arts venue and former Bed Bath & Beyond store.
Partnering with long-time real estate associate Clise Properties, the company envisions a highly connected, network-dense facility rather than an AI-focused hub, with demolition and construction slated for 2027. However, the timing introduces a layer of regulatory friction, as the project was proposed the same week Seattle officials advanced a one-year moratorium on new data center developments due to mounting power demands on the city's grid.
