TriStar: Armory Project

Plans by TriStar Properties to convert the vacant St. Louis Armory into a data center and build a second data center on its parking lot for an estimated $600 million have been paused. The developers need more time to comply with new stringent regulatory measures introduced by the City of St. Louis, which were issued in lieu of a full moratorium on data center developments.

This pause follows significant pushback from local officials and residents who have raised concerns about the project's intensive energy and water demands, questionable economic benefits, and impact on the local community, as voiced by Alderman Michael Browning and Aldermen President Megan Green. The new city framework requires closer scrutiny of data center proposals, considering factors like job creation, utility use, distance from neighborhoods, and noise pollution, with a temporary ban still possible if community concerns are not adequately addressed.
