STL1 was announced in 2014 as an $85M, 88,000 sqft multi-tenant data center on 15 acres near Plymouth Industrial Park in Wellston, Missouri, targeted to open in summer 2015. It was never built.

The land is still undeveloped. St Louis County's Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority holds the parcels and put both Wellston industrial parks out to RFP for logistics and light industrial use in October 2024. Ascent exited data center ownership in 2021 and owns no property in the county.

The specifications below are from the original announcement and were never realized.

Announced specifications:

  • Dual 34 kV electrical connections
  • 10+ MVA of power
  • 88,000 sqft footprint, building shell expandable
  • Access to multiple fiber providers with dual entries, carrier neutral
  • 24' clear heights
  • 40' column spacing

Operating Company

Operated by:

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in St. Louis, Ascent provides data center engineering, design, construction management and day-two operations. It operates facilities for owners and tenants rather than owning data centers itself.

Ascent developed and owned its own facilities until 2021, when Lincoln Rackhouse and Stone Point Capital took majority control of the services business. WESCO acquired Ascent in December 2024 for $185M, buying the services platform without any real estate.

Ascent remains the operating partner in the Related Digital and TowerBrook joint venture at Cambridge, Ontario. Facilities that still carry the Ascent name elsewhere are owned by others.
