$500m Data Center Approved For Construction Outside Indianapolis

Indianapolis
The IND-A1 data center is a $500 million development project located in Indianapolis’ Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. Developed and operated by Metrobloks, the facility occupies a 14-acre site—formerly a drive-in theater—that has remained vacant for over four decades.
While the Metropolitan Development Commission approved the necessary rezoning to move the project forward, it remains the subject of intense local debate. Community organizers from Protect Martindale Brightwood have formally challenged the development, citing concerns over environmental justice and the lack of long-term economic opportunities for residents of the historically Black neighborhood.
Metrobloks intends to manage thermal loads using a closed-loop cooling system to mitigate local water usage as it transitions the site from a vacant lot into active industrial use.
