The City of Cleveland rejected a $1.6 billion proposal by private credit firm Lakeland Equity Group to build a hyperscale data center campus in the Slavic Village neighborhood. The planned project would have spanned 35 acres and three buildings.
City officials rejected the building permit during zoning review in May 2026, citing an incomplete application with no site plans, along with concerns over environmental impact and the load on the local grid. Cleveland then paused new standalone data centers; the pause runs through January 29, 2027.
