Facebook owns the building.
The original plan called for 900,000 sqft data center space and a 70,000 office space. Facebook has since announced an expansion that will bring the complex to 2.6 million square feet. The first data center comes online in 2020.
Initial Plan
A 146-acre campus with two 450,000-square-foot buildings at Nebraska Highway 50 and Capehart Road. In addition to the two Facebook data centers, there will be a 70,000-square-foot administrative building. Construction started in 2018 and will take about 18 months and will be ready in 2020.
FB Data Center Powered by Renewable Energy
Facebook has said access to clean power is one of the reasons it’s excited about the Omaha-area project. OPPD adopted a new rate structure for Facebook that allows the data center to be powered with 100 percent clean energy.
Facebook is buying wind power from Omaha Public Power District, which, in turn, is buying it from Enel and its Rattlesnake Creek Wind Project in Dixon County. That wind development is under construction and is expected to start generating electricity late this year. As a result of the expansion, Facebook will be increasing its annual purchase from 200 megawatts to 320 megawatts. (Source: Enel Green Power)
Expansion Announced in March 2018
In March 2018, Facebook announced large expansion to the project that was still under construction. There are two distinct expansion projects
-
A 670,000-square-foot project with two main data center buildings connected by an administration building — on the Northwest side of Highway 50 and Capehart Road.
-
A 970,000-square-foot project that includes two more data center buildings and an administrative building — on the East side of Highway 50.
