Aligned Data Centers’ Project Phoenix is a massive $10 billion redevelopment of the former Bruce Mansfield coal plant in Shippingport, Pennsylvania. In partnership with the Frontier Group of Companies, the project is transforming the 660-acre site into a premier hub for hyperscale AI and high-performance computing.
The campus is designed to include three massive data center buildings, with each facility spanning over 600,000 square feet. By co-locating these expansive facilities with a newly converted 3.6 GW natural gas-fired power station, the project creates a "vertically integrated" ecosystem that provides high-density, "behind-the-meter" power directly to the site. This strategic reuse of legacy industrial infrastructure not only revitalizes the region with thousands of jobs but also establishes a new standard for gigascale, AI-ready digital infrastructure in the United States.
Site History
The Shippingport Industrial Park occupies the former site of the Bruce Mansfield Power Plant, a 2.49 GW coal facility that operated from 1976 until its decommissioning in 2019. After acquiring the property from Energy Harbor Corp in 2022, the Frontier Group of Companies announced a $3.2 billion 'coal-to-gas' redevelopment.
