Altarea Group subsidiary Nation Data Center has broken ground on a mixed-use development in Vélizy-Villacoublay, north-central France, including a data center with 7MW of IT capacity. The facility will support AI and high-performance computing workloads, with a target PUE of 1.2. It will use direct liquid cooling, while waste heat will be recovered for Vélizy’s district heating network.
The development will also include 365 social student housing units and four local retail spaces. Nation Data Center said waste heat from the data center will help heat the student residence. Nation Data Center operates a locally based, sovereign data center network across France, focused on responsible hosting.
Nation Data Center currently operates two data centers in Rennes and is building two more in Rouen and Paris, both expected to become operational in 2027. Its parent company, real estate investment firm Altarea, recently partnered with Vantage Data Centers to develop a 400MW data center campus in Bordeaux, France.
