Spanish data center operator Nabiax has begun construction of a new facility in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. Known as Alcalá Data Center 3 (ADC3), the project will complete Nabiax’s Alcalá campus and represents an investment of nearly €800 million ($918 million). The facility will add up to 100MW of IT capacity by 2029, serving hyperscale, cloud, and AI workloads. Once complete, Nabiax will have 135MW of installed IT capacity across Spain. ADC3 will use a closed-loop cooling system.
The project includes a partnership with the University of Alcalá to support scholarships, internships, and research while helping attract local talent to the digital infrastructure sector. Nabiax CEO Pablo Ruiz-Escribano also called for a balance between sustainability and investment, emphasizing the need for legal certainty and clear distinctions between established projects and new developments.
The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, also addressed the issue of regulation and defended the need for a stable framework for the sector. “Data centers are not a problem, but rather part of the solution and an opportunity that we certainly intend to take advantage of,” she stated.
Madrid currently has 58 data center projects, with 41 operational and 15 under construction, while a further 40 projects represent around €15 billion in planned investment. Nabiax’s existing Alcalá facilities, ADC1 and ADC2, launched in 2013 and 2022 respectively and provide a combined 22MW. Founded in 2019, Nabiax was created by Asterion Industrial Partners through the acquisition of Telefónica’s data centers. Aermont acquired the company in 2024. Nabiax also operates facilities near Madrid and in Terrassa, Barcelona.
