Nebius: Mäntsälä Finland

Nebius, a European AI data center developer, is tripling the capacity of its data center in Mäntsälä, Finland, approximately 40 miles north of the capital, Helsinki. The data center was originally built by Yandex, which purchased the land in 2013 and opened it in 2014 as the company's first 'greenfield' project. Yandex’s European operation was rebranded to Nebius in 2024.

The expansion in Mäntsälä is part of Nebius' broader $1 billion investment program in AI infrastructure across Europe, set to be completed by mid-2025. This initiative includes the development of build-to-suit data centers at greenfield sites, colocations, and a recently announced GPU cluster in Paris. The expansion will see Nebius place upwards of 60,000 GPUs at the facility.

Before its rebranding to Nebius, the Mäntsälä data center was operated by Yandex and utilized by Yandex Data Factory, the machine learning and Big Data division of the former Russian firm. Founded in 2014 and based in Amsterdam, Yandex Data Factory focused on assisting businesses in leveraging their data to enhance operational efficiency.
