Apple initially started in 2012 with 160 acres in Prineville to build a 338,000 square foot data center. At the time the facility planned to draw 20 Megawatts. Now the campus is set to grow to 3.2 million square feet.
In 2010, Prineville was selected to house Facebook's first data center. Now plans are in place for 7 data centers on the campus with up to 3.2 million square feet.
Established in 1868, Prineville is the oldest community in Central Oregon and one of Oregon’s first incorporated cities. Prineville’s economic origins are tied to the land in agriculture, forest products,
the railroad, and manufacturing.
Both Apple and Facebook have data centers located in Crook County. The large content companies were attracted by the low cost of electric and tax abatements.
Prineville is well prepared with infrastructure in place for water and wastewater to support growth and development.
