Meta’s $1.2B Data Center In Kuna, Idaho, Goes Live

Meta’s Kuna, Idaho Data Center Is Now Operational Meta has begun serving traffic from its data center in Kuna, Idaho. The company announced the campus in 2022, initially planning to invest $800 million in a 960,000 sq ft (89,187 sqm) facility. The project was later temporarily paused for redesign to support AI infrastructure and liquid cooling. Meta’s vice president of data center development and strategy, Gary Demasi, confirmed the facility’s launch in a LinkedIn post.

Demasi wrote: "Meta's Kuna Data Center is officially serving traffic — our second AI-optimized facility in our fleet, now online in Idaho, representing an overall investment of $1.2 billion."

The site uses a closed-loop liquid cooling system that uses little to no water for most of the year. Meta has also invested more than $100 million in a dedicated water and wastewater system for the City of Kuna. The company has matched the data center’s electricity use with 100% clean energy and added 645MW of new renewable energy capacity in Ada County.

Demasi added: "Building AI infrastructure at this scale is a long-term commitment, and we do it in partnership with the places that we call home — planning years ahead with utilities, funding the systems our facilities depend on, and investing in schools and organizations that will outlast any single building. A data center should leave a community measurably stronger than it found it. That's the standard we're holding ourselves to here in Kuna, and across our communities around the world."
