Go to PodcastDutch AI data center company Volt has announced plans to develop a massive "AI Gigafactory" at the Port of Rotterdam, spearheading a national bid to host one of the European Union's flagship 300MW supercomputing clusters.
Intended to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty and reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure, the project is backed by the Dutch government, private partners, and energy company Eneco, which aims to power the site using North Sea offshore wind energy. Volt plans to build the facility in phases starting as early as 2027.
