Tencent Holdings is making steady progress on what is set to become China's largest data center. The project, known as the Yangtze River Delta Artificial Intelligence Advanced Computing Center, is a joint venture between the Shenzhen-based internet giant and Shanghai's Songjiang District that began construction in 2020 with a $7 billion investment and commenced operations in 2021.

The center has already completed four buildings, with at least 10,000 servers functioning smoothly and all cooling equipment installed. Upon completion, the facility will house an impressive 800,000 servers, with computing power projected to be 10 times greater than the world's most powerful supercomputing center.

The center serves multiple purposes, providing cloud computing services to the public, including instant messaging, image processing, and medical insurance payment processing. Additionally, it supports Tencent's ChatGPT-like HunyanAide project.
