A 575-acre data center campus called the Goldfinch Technology Park is being proposed near Calgary, Alberta, by developer Diode Ventures.

The project recently took a step forward when the Wheatland County council voted to rezone the agricultural land for industrial use, but it still needs a final third reading and official planning approval before construction can begin. Diode Ventures plans to build the campus in three phases.

Meanwhile, the proposal faces strong pushback from local residents who are concerned about the project's noise, heavy water and energy demands, and environmental impacts on area wildlife.
