The DXC Wynyard Data Center, often called the "Northern Data Center," is a massive 360,000 sq. ft. facility in Stockton-on-Tees that stands as a landmark of sustainable engineering. Originally a distribution warehouse, it was transformed into a high-tech hub by EDS and later HP, officially opening in 2010 as one of the most eco-friendly data centers in the world.
The facility gained international fame for its pioneering "Direct Fresh Air Cooling" system, which leverages the cool Northeast England climate to eliminate the need for traditional energy-hungry chillers for roughly 99% of the year. This design allows the site to operate with an exceptional Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of around 1.16.
Following the 2017 merger of HPE’s Enterprise Services with CSC, the site transitioned to DXC Technology, where it remains a critical, high-security "List X" facility serving major UK government departments and global enterprise clients.
