CyrusOne is planning a significant expansion in southern Illinois, proposing a $500 million data center campus in Talkington Township, roughly 14 miles southwest of Springfield. The development will span 280 acres in Sangamon County, about 80 miles north of St. Louis. It's strategically located near Swift Current Energy's Double Black Diamond solar farm, an $800 million facility that became operational in early 2025.

The campus is slated to include up to six buildings, each measuring 250,000 square feet. Construction is projected to begin next year, with the first phase launching in 2027. Notably, the facility will use closed-loop air cooling systems.
