Spencer Building Carrier Hotel has shared that it has obtained the permits to begin work on its new data center in the heritage section of Vancouver's Harbour Centre. The company shared that the project is still in its preconstruction phase, but that construction will commence in August 2023, with the launch date pegged in the fourth quarter of 2024.

According to the carrier hotel, the facility is to become Vancourver's "most advanced and sustainable data center," and will set "new benchmarks" within the region's industry for both "technological prowess and ESG compliance."

Further details were not released regarding sustainability features or ESG compliance. The company first announced plans for the facility back in January 2022, where it shared that, fully built out and operational, the 43,000 sq. ft. carrier hotel would offer 10MW of critical power, the ability to support up to 20kW+ per cabinet, and over 20,000 connected fibers.

"The arrival of Spencer Building Carrier Hotel in Vancouver is a testament to our commitment to offering premiere data center services that are economically viable for our customers and backed by the rich connectivity legacy of Harbour Centre," commented Chris Jones, Director of Data Center Infrastructure and Operations at Spencer Building Carrier Hotel.

Adding: "We are proud to merge the history and experience of Harbour Centre as Vancouver's primary interconnection hub with our trailblazing innovations and customized service offerings. This unique blend will redefine the data center experience, helping us empower businesses and service providers of all sizes."
