Global Switch Begins Construction of Second Madrid Data Center

Construction has begun on Global Switch’s second data center in Madrid, Spain. Madrid 2 will be a 24,000-square-meter colocation facility with 56MW of capacity, supporting AI, cloud, and high-performance computing workloads. The facility is expected to open in 2029 and reach full capacity by 2032.
Global Switch’s existing Madrid 1 facility was built in 2000 and has since been expanded. The 12,000-square-meter data center currently offers 14MW, with further upgrades planned through 2027. Once Madrid 2 is completed, the campus will have a combined capacity of 70MW. Located on Calle Yécora, the site sits in Madrid’s “Silicon Alley,” a major technology and connectivity hub.
Founded in 1998 and headquartered in London, Global Switch operates 16 data centers across Europe and Asia Pacific, totaling around 428,000 square meters. The company is majority owned by China’s Jiangsu Shagang Group. Madrid is Spain’s leading data center hub, with 81 facilities listed by Data Center Map.
