Malaysian conglomerate Kuok Group is considering investing up to €5.3 billion ($6bn) in a 300MW hyperscale data centre campus on the southern outskirts of Milan, according to Teleborsa. Italy's Industry Minister, Adolfo Urso, met with K2 Strategic CEO Meng Wei Kuok on 26 June to discuss the proposal. The project is expected to create around 200 permanent jobs and up to 8,000 construction roles.

The proposed multi-billion-euro investment would fund the development and long-term operation of the campus. Founded in 2017, K2 is Kuok Group's digital infrastructure arm, developing and operating hyperscale data centres. The company currently operates three facilities in Ireland and Malaysia, with two more under construction in Dublin, according to DataCenterMap.

Lombardy is Italy's fastest-growing data centre market, with Milan projected to expand from 200MW to 2GW of capacity over the next five years. However, the boom has faced local opposition, including resistance to a proposed 240MW campus in Magenta.images_2_uogSJza.width-358.jpg
