Damac and AiOnX are each advancing separate data centre developments in Pregnana Milanese, a municipality on the outskirts of Milan in northern Italy. Damac's MIL01 facility is being built on the former Gefco-Citroën factory site. Developed by the UAE-based property conglomerate through its digital infrastructure arm, the data centre will cover approximately 55,000 square metres (592,015 sq ft) and is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2028.
Last month, Damac Digital said it plans to build a 6GW IT capacity landbank across more than 35 sites in 13 countries, including Italy. Pregnana Milanese is also set to host AiOnX's Pregnana Innovation Campus. The London-based company acquired the €125 million ($142 million) site in October 2024, according to its parent company, SWI Group. The 220,000 sqm (2.36 million sq ft) campus is planned to deliver 150MW of capacity after SWI Group secured an additional 60MW of power from Italy's national transmission system operator.
The site is near a grid connection point and a major road. SWI said in February it was seeking outline planning approval and expects the project to be completed within three years. Italian news outlet Il Post has also reported plans for a third data centre in Pregnana Milanese, although DCD could not independently verify the project. Lombardy, centred on Milan, is Italy's largest data centre market, with around 100 facilities operational or in development. The city is expected to grow from around 200MW to 2GW of capacity over the next five years.
