A 120MW data center has been proposed in Lombardy, northern Italy. The facility, planned by The Blossom Avenue Partners and developed by Edge Gate near Travagliato, could attract millions of euros in investment but has faced criticism from local politicians over the transparency of the planning process.
The project will occupy a 130,000 sqm (1.4 million sq ft) site near Travagliato, featuring a two-story data center, substation, fire station, and supporting infrastructure. Developers estimate the project will contribute more than €11 million ($12.5m) to the local municipality. However, local officials have criticized the planning process, alleging the proposal was not disclosed to the city council for several months.
Lombardy is becoming a key data center market in Italy, with 65 facilities listed in the region. However, new developments have faced opposition, including protests against a project in Magenta. In response, Lombardy introduced Regional Law No.11/2026, Italy’s first data center approval framework, aimed at improving sustainability and encouraging brownfield development.
