The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will invest up to $175 million in AirTrunk’s planned data centers in Johor, Malaysia. AirTrunk’s JHB1 facility, which opened in July 2024, currently provides more than 50MW of capacity and is expected to reach over 150MW at full build-out. JHB2, announced in 2025, is planned to deliver more than 270MW of capacity.
The two AirTrunk projects are being developed on 520 hectares of land in Iskandar Malaysia, west of Johor Bahru. The IFC will support the developments through a mix of debt financing and equity investment. At full utilization, the data centers are expected to consume around 910 million liters of water annually.
Johor consumed around 536 million liters of water per day in January 2022, according to Malaysia’s Department of Statistics. Founded in 2018, AirTrunk was acquired by Blackstone and CPPIB for $16.1 billion in 2024. The company operates and develops data center campuses across Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Japan. The IFC recently announced a $71 million loan to Indian data center operator Sify.
