Finnish renewable energy firm Winda Energy, in partnership with investment company Gi21 Capital, has announced plans to develop a data center campus in Keminmaa, a municipality in Finnish Lapland.

The €500 million ($582 million) project will occupy a 15-hectare plot within the Rajakangas industrial zone, strategically positioned at the intersection of the E8 and E75 highways. Leveraging Sea Lapland’s robust, production-oriented renewable energy grid, construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first phase targeted for completion in 2028. This marks Winda Energy’s second major data center announcement this year, following a similar joint project in Janakkala earlier in 2026.

Operating Company

Winda Energy Oy is a Finnish renewable energy project developer founded in 2011, developing wind, solar, and energy storage projects across Finland from initial planning through to construction completion. The company works with a broad network of local partners and develops projects ranging from small wind installations to large multi-turbine sites. Its majority shareholder is private equity investor BHM Renewables, with Finnish private investors holding minority stakes. In April 2026, Winda Energy announced its first data center project in Rastikangas, Janakkala, in collaboration with Gi21 Capital, a European investment company specialising in data center development, construction, and operation.
