Finnish energy company Pohjan Voima is planning to develop a 60-hectare data center project in the Mykä area of Keminmaa, situated approximately 10 kilometers north of the municipal center. Backed by majority owner Arise AB, the developer leverages a 2GW portfolio of wind and solar assets to support the site, which Mayor Hannele Matinlassi views as a vital catalyst for attracting wider technology investment to the Lapland region.
While preliminary studies confirm the site's suitability, a final investment decision is slated for 2027/2028, with construction potentially beginning as early as 2026 following local community consultations.
