Finnish energy company Pohjan Voima is looking to develop a project in Keminmaa. In other Finnish news, Compute Nordic is expanding its landholdings in Mikkeli, while another company is targeting a development in Närpiö on the country's west coast.
“The project would be of great importance to Keminmaa. It could attract technology companies to the region on a wider scale,” said Keminmaa Mayor Hannele Matinlassi. “I see the data center as a really good thing for the residents and companies.”
"Based on preliminary studies, the Mykä area is well-suited for a data center. However, we do not know the area as well as the residents of Keminmaa. That is why we are listening carefully to local views,” Pohjan Voima CEO Tomi Mäkipelto says on the project page.
Swedish renewables firm Arise AB (itself recently acquired by Aneo group) acquired a majority stake in Pohjan Voima in 2023. Insurance company LähiTapiola and the current management own the remainder.
