A new data center development known as the "Smithfield Gateway" project is being considered for Smithfield Township in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The proposed site would feature two 250,000-square-foot facilities linked to commercial real estate firm Legend Properties.
While an end-user has not yet been disclosed and the project awaits official approval, it has already met with local pushback. A community petition titled "Stop the massive data center in East Stroudsburg, PA" has gathered over 800 signatures, citing concerns regarding environmental impacts, noise and light pollution, and skeptical economic returns for the Delaware River border town.
