Developer Withdraws Proposal for 250MW Data Center in Apex, North Carolina

The 1,845-acre rezoning for Project Delta has been completely voided following a lawsuit over a county procedural error, forcing developers to restart the approval process from scratch. Although the Stokes County Board of Commissioners initially approved the multi-hundred-megawatt data center campus near Walnut Cove in January 2026, they voted to rescind it in April after learning the public hearing notices violated state deadlines, reverting the land back to residential-agricultural status.
Engineered Land Solutions (ELS) is moving ahead by submitting a brand-new application, but they face intensifying community opposition; local groups and descendants of the Saura tribe and Hairston plantation are citing massive power grid strains, potential pollution of the Dan River, and threats to ancestral burial grounds while aggressively pushing the county for a one-year data center moratorium.
