Patmos, a Kansas City company led by CEO John Johnson, has proposed converting the vacant former Walmart Supercenter in Fairfield, Alabama, into a colocation data center and tech campus.
Company officials have described a first phase of about $150 million, with a possible later expansion in 2028. The site is reported as under contract; as of mid-September 2026 the mayor said design plans still had to be submitted and reviewed by city council. No permit approval or groundbreaking has been reported.
