Go to PodcastOppidan has agreed to buy the former McDonald Steel and U.S. Steel mill property in McDonald from Applied Partners, but no final deal exists. Its plan calls for 9 to 12 data center buildings, two to four administration buildings and a park. The mills ran from 1915 to 2023, and the owners have since demolished their structures. The land is zoned light and heavy industrial.
Oppidan plans a five-year phased build and would hand the campus to an operator after construction. It projects about 250 jobs and about $7.3 million a year in taxes. Oppidan has filed no site plan or application, and the village will not accept data center applications while its moratorium is in force.
