Naver opened Phase 1 of its Gak Sejong data center in late 2023 with an initial $500 million investment. Known as the "Cloud Ring," the 290,000-square-meter (3.1 million sq ft) facility is designed to host up to 600,000 servers at full buildout. Initial planning began in 2019, followed by construction in 2021. Phase 1 represents approximately one-third of the total complex, with Phase 2 and Phase 3 expansions planned for 2028 and 2029.
Under a $10 billion initiative backed by Nvidia ($1 billion) and Brookfield Asset Management (up to $9 billion in project financing), Naver is designating a dedicated portion of the campus for an Nvidia DSX AI factory platform. The deployment will utilize Nvidia’s Blackwell and Vera Rubin GPU hardware, scaling in phases from H1 2027 through 2028 to support South Korea's sovereign AI infrastructure.
