Essential Utilities, a US utility company, is investing $26 million in a new data center project in Greene County, Pennsylvania. The company, which specializes in natural gas and wastewater treatment, has partnered with independent power producer International Electric Power III (IEP) to become an investor in the planned 1,400-acre facility.
The data center will be powered by natural gas combined cycle combustion turbines located on-site, with a battery energy storage system providing additional support. It will also have a backup connection to the existing power grid. The project is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2029.
