Energy Abundance Development Corp, a Houston-based company, is building an enormous 50,000-acre data center complex called "Data City, Texas" near Laredo. This facility is slated to become the world's largest "behind-the-meter" data center, meaning it will generate all its power on-site using 100% green energy, 24/7.

The project will unfold in several phases, with the first 1 million square feet of data center space ready for use in 2026. Ultimately, Data City, Texas will offer over 15 million square feet of leasable data center space.

While the data centers will initially operate on natural gas produced in Texas, Energy Abundance plans to transition to 100% green hydrogen in the future. This hydrogen will be sourced from their own hydrogen salt dome storage facility.
