Amazon: Project Rise

Site planned for 2028 and has expansions through 2029
Lot Size: 425 acres

Officially known as Project Rise, this $7 billion Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center campus will span a 304-acre site in Wheatfield, Indiana, positioned just a half-mile from NIPSCO’s R.M. Schahfer Generating Station to draw massive power directly from the source.

Unanimously approved by Jasper County commissioners in June 2026, the hyperscale development is slated to feature up to nine data center buildings and create hundreds of permanent tech jobs. To secure strong local partnerships, AWS is providing the county with $98 million in upfront funding alongside a $25 million investment to deliver municipal water services to the town of Wheatfield for the first time. Designed with sustainability at its core, the campus will minimize its environmental footprint by relying on ambient air cooling for 98% of the year, reserving water-based cooling exclusively for the absolute hottest days.
