Verizon will supply dark fiber to Amazon Web Services (AWS) under an agreement worth more than $2 billion, the carrier said on Oct. 26. Verizon disclosed the deal in its third-quarter results. The carrier provides the high-capacity fiber links, and AWS is the custome

Verizon said the agreement "establishes a commercial framework to scale distributed compute and meet the real-time demands of agentic and generative AI workloads." The contract expands an existing relationship between the two companies. Verizon announced an earlier AI Connect fiber agreement with AWS in November 2025, and AWS is Verizon's preferred public cloud provider.
"Today, we announced that we have signed a dark fiber agreement with Amazon Web Services valued at over $2 billion," said Dan Schulman, Verizon's chief executive, on the company's earnings call. Schulman said the AWS contract and a Google dark fiber deal announced in July show that the largest builders of AI infrastructure are choosing Verizon as a strategic connectivity partner. The Google agreement is worth more than $1 billion.
Schulman said Verizon has signed about $4 billion of AI Connect contracts in six months. Verizon says AI Connect covers dark fiber, lit fiber and edge computing for hyperscalers, neocloud providers and large enterprise clients, and that the company is negotiating with more customers for dark or lit fiber.
The announcement came with Verizon's third-quarter results, which included operating revenue of $34.3 billion, up 1.5 percent from a year earlier. Verizon held its 2026 capital spending guidance at $16.0 billion to $16.5 billion, a range that includes success-based investments for AI Connect, and said fiber passings are on track to exceed 32 million by year end. A multi-year agreement with Corning covers 80 million miles of fiber through 2032.
Verizon has not disclosed the agreement's duration, deployment locations or committed optical capacity, Converge Digest reported. Management said AI Connect revenue is expected to become noticeable in 2027 and to grow over the following five to ten years.
