Amazon Web Services has revealed plans for a three-building data center campus on 134 acres in Walla Walla County, Washington. Documents posted by the county, reported by Data Center Dynamics on Nov. 5, describe the Amazon Attalia Data Center Campus as three 220,000-square-foot buildings with 3geekwire.comFeatured: Exterior photograph of an AWS data center facility campus featured in regional reporting on Washington developments.00MW of expected power capacity. The site sits between Sundance Road, Dodd Road and Worden Road, east of U.S. Highway 12 near Burbank.

Amazon Data Services owns the land and will develop and operate the campus. The Port of Walla Walla sold 554 acres at the Wallula Gap Business Park to Amazon Data Services in February 2026 for $36 million, and the proposed campus occupies 134 acres of that property. The county has not yet approved the project.

The proposal is a significant reduction from what the site was earlier expected to hold. A 2024 land purchase in the business park was to support a $4.8 billion campus of 16 buildings totaling more than 3.4 million square feet, Data Center Dynamics reported. The three buildings AWS now proposes, along with a security building, an industrial water facility and a pad for a substation, are far smaller.

Walla Walla County and third-party planner Facet are preparing a State Environmental Policy Act review. A second public comment period will follow, and the county will then make a formal decision, with no timeline set. The first 30-day comment period closed Oct. 12 with 706 submissions, 23 of which supported the project, according to a Union-Bulletin analysis reported by GeekWire. More than 500 submissions came from outside the county, and many called for a full Environmental Impact Statement.

Amazon says the three single-story buildings would create about 120 to 150 full-time jobs. At an August open house, Roger Wehner, vice president of economic development for AWS, put the figure at 125 to 150 full-time jobs, the Union-Bulletin reported.

"We're committed to growing responsibly and we want the community to leave the Open House with a better understanding of this project and what it could mean for the area," an Amazon spokesperson said, per GeekWire.

Amazon confirmed a second Washington project this week, on 1,000 acres in West Richland in the Tri-Cities, where a campus could eventually reach 21 buildings. GeekWire reports both proposals are Amazon's first large-scale data centers in its home state, and a full build-out in West Richland could create more than 1,000 full-time jobs, the company said.

Baxtel tracks 134 data centers in Washington, operated by 53 providers, and lists the Attalia property as the Amazon: Wallula Gap Campus, a planned site on 554 acres.

Walla Walla County will issue a decision on the Attalia campus after a second comment period, and it has not set a timeline for either step.
