Data center operator TeleData UK has received approval to demolish a vacant two-story flat roof building for the construction of a new data center campus east of Wythenshawe town centre. The current campus provides 6,500 square meters of data center service to over 250 clients and the expansion is expected to contain approximately 46,000 square feet.
TeleData said, “The existing building provides insufficient floor space to cater for demand and the comprehensive development delivers a more operationally efficient building.” The expansion will create space for a large data hall, a cooling corridor on each floor, electrical plant rooms, a reception area, ancillary offices, and storage rooms.
The proposed landscaping plan also includes significant enhancements with trees and shrub planting along the boundaries which Union4 noted will help soften the appearance of the new building. Union4 said in a planning statement, “It is also important to the applicant by improving the image and appearance of the site from a commercial perspective, as one of their showcase facilities.”
TeleData further emphasized that the aim of this project is to elevate the industry’s profile in Manchester. “The proposals provide the added benefit of indirectly generating economic growth and employment provision within the wider area, thus, having substantive benefits in terms of the core strategy’s vision and spatial objectives,” said TeleData.
