Equinix: Equinix announces plans for its new data center in Manchester, UK

Equinix has revealed its plans for a new data center in Manchester, UK. The MA5 facility is the company’s fifth IBX facility in Manchester. It is situated in the Agecroft Commerce Park in Salford. The first phase of the facility will provide up to 3,600 square meters of colocation space. It will also provide 6,480 square meters upon full buildout. Phase one is scheduled to be completed in Q2 2022. Equinix says the facility will be LEED certified.

Lorraine Wilkinson, VP of sales at Equinix UK, said Manchester is one of the top cities for business, and it caters to world-renowned companies and start-ups that want to scale their operations. He added that MA5 would provide the needed high-speed connectivity that will help trigger the region's next generation of digital transformation. The company revealed that the development of the new data center would take its total investment in the city to over £130 million ($178m).
